The operation theater technology is a sophisticated technical profession that comes under the paramedical sciences. The operating room technicians are also called surgical scrubs or operating room assistants. This class of nominal medical professionals forms an indispensable arm of the operation unit team, working in collaboration with the surgeon, anesthesiologist, and nurse to ensure effective patient care during surgical procedures.
These technicians ensure that every process inside an operation theatre is as safe and effective as possible. Their primary role here consists in that of the caretaker for everything regarding the theatre and includes looking after surgical instruments, sterilisation, preparing the drais; this includes the operating table, instrument table, and anesthetic table; all medicines for surgery, anesthetic gases, drapes, and linen and their sterilisation. The Diploma in Operation Theater Technology is aimed at training professionals in the multidisciplinary fields of Operation Theater Administration, Medical Ethics, Anesthesia Technology, and Postoperative Care. Operation Theater and Anaesthesia Technologists perform various duties that encompass patient care, both direct and indirect, as well as establishment and running procedure of medical equipment. Students trained under this program are able to assist surgeons during operations and are assigned additional functions to perform in a responsible manner.
